Princesses Mary Ann Vathy, Chair

Princesses Maria Nunez, Joanne Rodriguez, and Dorothy Johnson, Co-Chairs

We have a very impressive collection of quilting books (both applique and patchwork) in our guild library. The books are currently stored by our Feather Princesses members at their homes. Each month, our Guild Librarian, Princess Mary Ann Vathy, brings a selection of books for our review and check-out; and we encourage our members to browse and check out the books.

Library Procedures and Guidelines

  1. The Feather Princesses lending library is a very valuable resource for our guild members and needs to be treasured and enjoyed by all members.  The FPs lending library materials are exclusively available to only current members of our guild.  They are not to be loaned to or shared with non-guild members.  Guild members are ultimately responsible for returning the books, and the care and the condition of the books.
  2. Books are loaned for 1 month and must be returned at the next month’s meeting.  For example, if books are checked out at April’s meeting, they must be returned at May’s meeting.  If you are not going to be at the next meeting due to a previous appointment, vacation, surgery, etc., please do not check out a book.  If you give it to a trusted fellow guild member to return for you, you are still ultimately responsible for the book. Please send an email to the Librarian to confirm who will return the book.
  3. Each Princess may check out 2 books for 1 month.  A Princess is allowed to check out only 1 Red Dot book (books published in 2025, books on the Classic List or a CD/DVD/book containing a pattern or pattern kit) or kit or pattern at a time, in addition to 1 regular book for a total of 2 books.
  4. Books are free of charge to check out, however Red Dot items (books published in 2025, books on the Classic List or a CD/DVD/book containing a pattern or pattern kit) require depositing a $50 check, payable to the Feather Princesses. We will return the check intact, upon return of the item.  If the Red Dot materials are not returned the following month, the Librarian will try to contact the lender.  After 2 months if the Red Dot book or kit is not returned, the check will be cashed by the Treasurer and the Librarian will order a replacement copy if it’s available or another book similar to the lost one if it’s irreplaceable. Or the Princess who checked out the book can purchase a replacement copy online or at a bookstore and the check will be returned by the Treasurer. Red Dot books and kits are marked with a red circle on the front to easily identify them.
  5. Our entire library is sorted into bins by categories and our wonderfully generous Library Volunteers store these books and patterns in their homes. A database of all our titles is listed under the Library tab of our website along with the Librarian’s contact information. If you want to request a particular item, please contact the Librarian 1 week before the guild meeting and she will contact the appropriate volunteer who will bring it to the next meeting for check out.
  6. Books will be available for checkout before the guild meeting officially begins at 11 a.m. and during lunch.  Once a Feather Princess decides on a book they’d like to borrow for 1 month, the Librarian or a Library Volunteer will record the due date, and the lender will sign the check-out card at the time of check out.
  7. If you would like to reserve a book that’s already checked out, inform the Librarian at the meeting and she will put your name on the Wait List.  We request that you don’t share books among guild members.  The lender on file is ultimately responsible for the books.
  8. Members who do not return their library materials the following month at the guild meeting will not be allowed to check out additional library materials until returned.  If a book is lost or damaged, as stated in #4, the $50 check will be cashed and used to purchase the book, or the Princess can purchase it herself instead and receive her check back. Check out privileges will be suspended until the book is replaced.
  9. Our lending library is a very valuable and wonderful resource for our guild members.  To help preserve this benefit, it’s essential that books are returned when due; it’s your library so let’s treasure it and enjoy it.  Also, our library wouldn’t exist without our wonderful Library Volunteers.  We are so grateful for them!
