General Information

Membership

Guests are welcome to attend two meetings prior to joining the guild. The yearly membership fee is $50, due at our August meeting, and is pro-rated if you join during the months of March – May.

Our membership extends to the farthest boundaries of Tampa Bay, with Feather Princesses coming from Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties to regularly attend our meetings and guild activities; plus a few members in other states.

Because of our diversity and broad range of appliqué interests and knowledge, talents, and skills, we get together each month not only at our general meeting, but at four quilt circles, ten specialty appliqué groups, one hand quilting group, one study group and dynamic and inspirational classes and workshops.

We are so grateful for each other and the love that permeates our group; and we keep our feet firmly planted, seeking appliqué opportunities wherever they may be found. Ask our members and they will tell you that we have FUN—because when good friends get together, wonderful things happen.

Quilt Circles and Specialty Applique Groups

The Feather Princesses encourage members to participate in the various quilt circles that have been established, to allow them the opportunity to focus on their main appliqué quilt projects.

Along with our Quilt Circles, we have Specialty Appliqué Groups to allow members to focus on specific kids of applique, and we have a Quilt Study Group to allow our members to focus on specific applique designs and techniques.

Classes

Our specific purpose was—and always will be—to promote, teach, and encourage our love of all types of appliqué; and we have done this by hosting the top appliqué teachers in the country.

We have hosted classes with nationally acclaimed and world renown appliqué and quilting instructors including Elly Sienkiewicz, Mary Sorensen, Jo Coon, Cindy Blackberg, Kim Diehl, Anita Shackelford, Karen Phillips Shwallon, Gwen Marston, Sharon Stroud, Becky Goldsmith, Karen Kay Buckley, Lisa Bongean, Jo Morton, Frieda Anderson, Mark Sherman, Linda Cantrell, Juanita Yeager, Esterita Austin, Beth Ferrier, David Taylor, Irene Blanck, Sue Garman, Kathy McNeil, Nancy Kerns, and Di Ford-Hall—and more yet to come.

Another objective that we have so successfully accomplished was our goal to learn and master appliqué and quilting techniques, to encourage and achieve excellence in our needlework, and to make masterpiece quilts and compete at the national/international level.

Annual Retreat

Every year, a Retreat is held in October at the Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center. This is a fun way to get away from everyday life and spend five days ad four nights just finishing UFOs, finishing quilts for our Quilt Show, or working on special appliqué projects.  It’s also a great way to get to know the other Feather Princesses members who attend.

Quilt Shows

We have hosted five wonderfully exciting quilt shows in the past:

    • Appliqué in Tampa Bay (2007)
    • Appliqué in Tampa Bay II (2010)
    • Appliqué in Tampa Bay III – Reflections (2013)
    • Appliqué in Tampa Bay IV – Spring Fling (2017)
    • Appliqué in Tampa Bay V – Fun in the Sun (Feb 2023 Higgins Hall)

We look forward to sharing information regarding any upcoming quilt shows we may be planning. While we do not currently have our next quilt show plans underway, our prior shows have included the below great features:

♦ Vendor Mall (vendors from all over the U.S.)
♦ Mini Quilt Auction (benefitting a local charity)
♦ Opportunity Quilt
♦ Gift Baskets (for auction)
♦ Feather Princess Boutique (featuring hundreds of low-priced quilting fabric remnants, quilting book & magazines, patterns & notions)
♦ Quilt Appraisals
