General Information

We would love for you to appliqué and have fun with us at our monthly meetings, held the second Wednesday of each month, 11:00 a.m. at:

Carrollwood Recreation Center
3515 McFarland Road
Tampa, FL 33618

Guests are welcome to attend two meetings prior to membership. The yearly membership fee is $35, due at our August meeting.

Our membership extends to the farthest boundaries of Tampa Bay, with Feather Princesses coming from Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Sarasota counties to regularly attend our meetings and guild activities; plus we have members who reside in six other states (Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Vermont).

Because of our diversity and broad range of appliqué interests and knowledge, talents, and skills, we get together each month not only at our general meeting, but at five different quilt circles, five specialty appliqué group meetings, and three quilting technique group meetings.

We are so grateful for each other and the love that permeates our group; and we keep our feet firmly planted, seeking appliqué opportunities wherever they may be found. Ask our members and they will tell you that we have FUN—because when good friends get together, wonderful things happen.

Quilt Circles

The Feather Princesses encourage members to participate in the various quilt circles that have been established, so that a member can focus on her main appliqué interest.

Along with our Quilt Circles, we have Specialty Appliqué Groups and Quilting Technique Groups, so all our members can participate in their favorite appliqué technique.

Our specific purpose was—and always will be—to promote, teach, and encourage our love of all types of appliqué; and we have done this by hosting the top appliqué teachers in the country.

We have hosted nationally acclaimed and world renown appliqué and quilting instructors including Elly Sienkiewicz, Mary Sorensen, Jo Coon, Cindy Blackberg, Kim Diehl, Anita Shackelford, Karen Phillips Shwallon, Gwen Marston, Sharon Stroud, Becky Goldsmith, Karen Kay Buckley, Lisa Bongean, Jo Morton, Frieda Anderson, Mark Sherman, Linda Cantrell, Juanita Yeager, Esterita Austin, Beth Ferrier, David Taylor, Irene Blanck, Sue Garman, Kathy McNeil and Nancy Kerns—and more yet to come.

Another objective that we have so successfully accomplished was our goal to learn and master appliqué and quilting techniques, to encourage and achieve excellence in our needlework, and to make masterpiece quilts and compete at the national/international level.

Meetings of the Feather Princesses are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. A Sit and Stitch is held at 9:30 a.m. and the General Meeting is at 11:00 a.m. Lunch is held at 12 noon, with the General Meeting resuming at 1:00 p.m.

Other meetings such as a Retreat Meeting or a Quilt Show meeting may also be held before the General Meeting.

After the General Meeting, a technique class or presentation is held for members.

Every year, a retreat is held at the Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center. This is a fun way to get away from everyday life and spend four days just finishing UFOs or working on special appliqué projects.  It’s also a great way to get to know the other Feather Princesses’ members.
